Activity During WWII

Enlisted in 1942. Trained as a machine gunner and assigned to C Company, 1st battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. Wounded at Tarawa where he was bayoneted. Wounded again at Saipan and then assigned light duties at Portsmouth Naval Base in 1945, where he captured the U-805 (he spoke German) after it surrendered. Awarded two Purple Hearts, the Pacific and American campaign ribbons, the Good Conduct and WWII Victory medals as well as the Presidential unit citation and combat ribbon.
