ROTC at Harvard, but left early to enlist in 1943. Served in the 78th Infantry Division and captured during the Battle of the Bulge. Spent five months as a Prisoner of War in Germany. Awarded the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the European campaign ribbon with 5 stars, Good Conduct and WWII Victory medals. Later awarded the Prisoner of War medal.
