Rank: Corporal. On January 13, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps as a draftee from Michigan, receiving his combat infantry training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. Served with Company-A as a Rifleman, First Battalion, Fifth Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the First Marine ‘The Old Breed’ Division in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands against the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1-June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Killed in action Wednesday, June 20, 1945 and buried in the First Marine Division Cemetery on Okinawa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment March 10, 1949 at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
