studying in Luxembourg when war was declared, He was arrested by the Gestapo and interned in a camp in Bavaria until exchanged by the Swedish Red Cross in 1944. Upon release, he was a mobile scout in the 14th Armored Division and fought in France and Germany in 1945. He was the first U.S. soldier to liberate Moosburg Prisoner of War camp and one of the first to discover Dachau. After V-E day he transferred to the Armored Corps. Discharged in 1946.
