He served in the 534th Anti-Aircraft Battalion in North Africa, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany. He participated in the invasion of Southern France and was stationed for a time in Nuremberg, Germany. He wore the European Theatre Ribbon with five stars, representing as many major battles, and the Good Conduct Medal.
