He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was inducted into the Military Service 8 November 1944 at Fort Douglas, Utah. In Basic Training he learned how to use the SS w/M1 Rifle and other warfare weapons. He was then sent to Camp Fannin, Texas to become a part of their Infantry. He joined the Advanced Training Infantry in Italy a few months later. The night before he was to go to the Front Lines they received word that the Germans had surrendered. When the war ended he was transferred to the 883rd Medical Battalion in Livorno (Leghorn) Italy. This Ambulance Battalion moved wounded soldiers from field hospitals to hospitals and then to ships to be transported home. This he did until all the wounded had been taken care of. He then became a part of the Occupational Forces as a Technician 5th grade with the 499th Quartermaster Car Company serving as an Automotive Mechanic until his release. He was released with an Honorable Discharge 20 August 1946 in Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He received the WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Two Overseas Bars, and the Good Conduct Medal.
