He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces on April 9th, 1942 at Patterson Field in Fairfield, Ohio. Enrolled in the Aviation Cadet Training Program. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII as a pilot of B-24 Serial# 42-52057, 'Reddy Teddy', which was assigned to the 15th U.S. Air Force, 49th Bombardment Wing, 451st Bombardment Group, 726th Bombardment Squadron. He flew more than 51 missions in the European Theater of Operations during his wartime service. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters.
