Rank: Brigadier General. Served in the United States Army as Commanding General of the 81st Division ‘Philippine Army’ and stationed on the Island of Mindanao. His division participated in the Battle of the Philippines, the conquest of the Philippine Islands by the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces (Battle Dates: December 8, 1941-April 9, 1942). After making a last ditch stand against the Japanese on Mindanao, he received orders to surrender and later captured by the enemy forces on May 27, 1942. He was held captive at the Bilibid Prisoner of War Camp and reported missing in action Friday, November 13, 1942. In remembrance of the brave, his name is recorded in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at the American Cemetery located at Fort Bonifacio in Manila, Philippine Islands. He received the following decorations posthumously: The Distinguished Service Medal and Purple Heart. This General, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
