He was one of the crew in PB4Y-1 SN 38913 on a patrol mission over the Makassar Straits on June 16, 1945. The PB4Y-1 was shot down and the crew was declared missing. Several searches of the Makassar Bay were performed with no sightings. He was declared dead June 17, 1945.
