He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1944. From February 1945 to June of 1946 he served as a Cannoneer in Battery A of the 84th Field Artillery Battalion in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Decorations and citations received during that time: The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, The WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
