He served as a Private First Class in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, Second Battalion, Company F, in the European Theater of Operations. He died on October 5, 1944, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was killed in action by a booby trap in France.
