Activity During WWII

He was a 2nd Lieutenant, 27th marines, company F, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines and landed on Iwo Jima with his company. He was awarded the silver star on February 28, 1945, where he and his company attacked hill 363, and were flanked by the enemy attempting to infiltrate though a gap. In the next few weeks he was wounded in the arm from a gunshot, was treated, and went back to his command. his initiative in immediately taking command of the company and stopping the enemy from penetrating the position in force at the time just before darkness, his courteous conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the united states naval service.
