Rank: Sergeant. On January 5, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps from Wisconsin, receiving his Marine Combat Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. Served with Company-E as a Rifleman, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment; a subordinate unit of the 5th Marine ‘The Spearhead/Fighting Fifth’ Division in the Western Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the amphibious assault against the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Battle Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945) Code Name: Operation Detachment. He died Sunday, April 1, 1945 of wounds received on the battlefield and buried at sea. In remembrance of the Brave, his name is recorded in the Tablets of the Missing, memorialized at the Honolulu National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific ‘Punchbowl’ Hawaii. He had also experienced combat with the Second Marine ‘Raider’ Battalion in the Battle of Makin Island on August 17-18, 1942. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart posthumously.
