Served as a combat infantryman in the Pacific Theater of Operations from 16 November 1942 until 6 July 1945 as a member of a rifle squad in Company I, 185th Infantry, 40th Division. Wounded in action on 27 April 1945 in the battle of Negros, off Luzon. Was in the first assault wave at Panay. Participated in the battles/campaigns of Luzon, Southern Philippine Islands and the Bismarck-Archipelago. Also served in the New Britain campaign. Received the Purple Heart, Bronze Service Arrowhead for landing in Luzon, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Philippine Liberation medal with Star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three stars and WWII Victory Medal. Entered active service on 23 October 1942 and honorably discharged on 9 January 1946 for a total service time of 3 years, 2 months, 17 days.
