Activity During WWII

Rank: Corporal. On October 26, 1941, he entered the United States Marine Corps from Indian, receiving his Marine Combat Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina. Served with Headquarters and Service Battery, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine ‘The Striking Second’ Division in the Western Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the amphibious assault against the Imperial Japanese Army forces on the Island of Saipan (Dates of Battle: June 15-July 9, 1944) Mariana Islands Campaign. Killed in Action Tuesday, June 20, 1944 and buried in the Second Division Cemetery on Saipan. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment at the Salem Cemetery in Milford, Indiana. In Remembrance and Honor of the Brave, his names is engraved on one of the twenty-six granite plates in the Court of Honor located at the American Memorial on Saipan. Experienced combat in to previous Operations/Battle of Guadalcanal and New Caledonia. This Marine, an American Patriot awarded the Silver Star posthumously for Distinguished Gallantry in Action and Valor in Combat against an enemy force. The Purple Heart was also awarded posthumously, as he so gallantly gave his life for his country.
