Activity During WWII

He enlisted into the U.S. Army on April 8, 1942 in New York City, New York. Due to a prewar leg injury, he was deferred from overseas duty and was sent to Texas to guard German prisoners of war. Because he had been a student of Julliard School of Music in New York City before entering the service, his final duties were in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas where he played trombone in the post band. It was a military separation center for the troops returning from duty overseas. He was discharged from there in January, 1946.
