He was a member of I Company, Third Battalion, 345th Regiment, 87th Golden Acorn Infantry Division, Third Army-General George Patton commanding. He participated in the capture of Metz, St. Vith and the Battle of the Bulge. His was the first unit through the Siegfried Line, captured Koblenz, assaulted across the Rhein, liberated Buchenwald, 5,000 British and American Prisoners of War, French, Dutch, Belgian, Russian and Polish slave workers. At war's end, he was in Czechoslovakia, one of only four men left in his original company. He earned a Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.
