He entered the U.S. Army, 28 December 1942 at Camp Croft, SOUTH CAROLINA, and completed infantry training at Camp Lee. Later he served a tour of duty in Italy and North Africa and completed Battles and Campaigns at NAPLES-FOGGIA; ROME-ARNO; NORTH APENNINES; AND PO VALLEY while being assigned to the 487th Quartermaster Laundry Company. His duties consisted of front line support, Heavy Truck Driver, Jeep Driver, AND Bath and Sterilization Laundry. EARNED THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN THEATER MEDAL WITH 4 Bronze Service Stars and Good Conduct Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on 20 October 1945 at Fort Bragg, NORTH CAROLINA.
