Activity During WWII

Corporal-Paratrooper. Enlisted at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment with extensive Airborne-Infantry training at Camp Blanding, Florida, followed with Parachute School at Fort Benning, Georgia. After maneuvers in South Carolina and Tennessee for combat readiness, sailed aboard the U.S. Army Transport James Parker AP-46, to Belfast, North Ireland; then to Nottingham, England, in preparation for the assault on Europe. As a part of the 82nd 'All American' Airborne Division, jumped on D-Day into Normandy, France, in Operation Overlord. As part of Operation Market Garden, jumped into the Netherlands in order to seize and secure the Waal River Bridge at Nijmegen, Holland; then played a major defensive part in the Roer Valley and the Battle of the Bulge. At war's end returned to Camp Milner, New Jersey, for separation from the service.
