He enlisted on August 10, 1942 and was in basic training to November 15, 1942 at the Naval Station Great Lakes, including advanced schooling to be a signalman. He was a quartermaster and was assigned to the DD-640 Beatty Destroyer from November 15, 1942 to November 6, 1943. Once he returned to the United States, He was assigned to shore duty in Boston Section Base, E, Boston, Massachusetts from November 6, 1943 to May, 1945. From May, 1945 to December 9, 1945 when he was discharged, he was assigned to Navy Small Crafts Facilities, Boston, Massachusetts.
