He served as a First Lieutenant in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 925th Field Artillery Battalion, 925th Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and later obtained the rank of Captain.
