Activity During WWII

He served in WWII as a First Lieutenant on a B-17 Flying Fortress with the 15th Army Air Force, 2nd Bombardment Group, 49th Bomb Squadron. On June 25, 1943, he and his crew members were on a bombing mission over Northeastern Sicily when his plane came in contact with enemy aircraft and was shot down over Messina, Sicily. Killed in Action, he was awarded the Purple Heart. On October 10, 1949, his remains were recovered from the crash site and identified. He is buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
