He served in the the Philippines Islands and on Okinawa. As a Private First Class, he received two Bronze Stars for heroic service at Leyte, Philippine Islands on October 26, 1944 and again on November 7, 1944. As a Sergeant, he received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action on Okinawa on May 13, 1945.
