Rank: Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class. On December 23, 1943, he entered the United States Navy from Pennsylvania, receiving his medical schooling with Company-A, Field Medical Battalion at Camp Elliott, Marine Corps Base in San Diego, California. Served as a Combat Medic with the First Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, a subordinate unit of the First Marine ‘The Old Breed Division. His division participated in the Amphibious Assault against the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval Forces in the Battle of Okinawa (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1-June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Killed in action Sunday, June 10, 1945 and buried in the First Marine Division cemetery on Okinawa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment in a private cemetery in Pennsylvania. This Naval Medical Corpsman, an American Patriot, awarded the Purple Heart Medal posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
