Activity During WWII

Aviation Engineer for the 801st Battalion January, 1943-February, 1946. Stationed in the Azores Islands, close to Spain. Responsibilities included building quarters, runways, roads, bridges, pipelines. The building of runways in the Azores provided for the 1st time on this route, a place for fighter planes to land and refuel before continuing on to fight in North Africa and Italy, among other destinations. Part of European Air Offensive January, 1944-February, 1945 for which he received the Bronze Star. Part of Okinawa, Japan occupation August, 1945-February 1946.
