Rank: Corporal. On April 2, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps from North Carolina, receiving his Boot Camp Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Later he completed his Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Served with Company-C as a Rifleman, First Battalion, 19th Marine Regiment, a subordinate unit of the Third Marine ‘the Fighting Third’ Division in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Battle of Bougainville, Solomon Islands Campaign Code Name: Operation Cherry Blossom. Killed in Action Monday, November 1, 1943 on the first day of the invasion and buried in the Marine Cemetery on Bougainville. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family requested that his remains be interred in the Manila American Cemetery, located at Fort Bonifacio, Philippine Islands. The Marine, an American Patriot awarded the Purple Heart Medal posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
