Activity During WWII

Lieutenant Colonel, Infantry, Army of U.S., served with distinction from 11 November 1940 to 26 September 1945 as 2nd Battalion Commander and Staff Officer in the 13th Infantry, 8th Division as part of Western Europe Campaign. Landed Utah Beach. Awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and Bronze Star Medal for heroic conduct on the field of battle as a combat commander at the age of 27 in the battle for Hill 88 in the Allied victory at the Battle for Brest, Brittany, France from 7 August to 19 September 1944, as a part of Operation Overlord of the Battle of Normandy. Graduated as 2nd Lieutenant from Davidson College, 1938. Completed Battalion Commander and Staff Officer Service School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Infantry Unit Commander: Served successively as Commander at Platoon, Detachment, Company, and Battalion levels. Responsible for training and proper equipping of various units commanded and tactical employment of battalion in combat. Discharged from Bruns General Hospital, Santa Fe, New Mexico 26 September 1945.
