In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed aboard the destroyer USS John Rogers, serving our country throughout WWII. As a 'Tin Can Sailor', his valor along with his shipmates earned 12 major battle stars and a Congressional Commendation on May 6, 2013 for exemplary service.
