Enlisted in 1940 and stationed on Peaks Island and then assigned to the 215th Field Artillery. He served as a foreword observer for Artillery both at the front and ina Piper Cub plane. He was almost shot down twice and earned the Air Medal with oak Leaf clusters. He fought in Normandy, the Bulge and Germany and liberated Bergen-Belsen. He was sent to the Pacific and off the coast of Japan when the war ended.
