Activity During WWII

Served in the Infantry, 1942. Later, HE WAS transferred to the Army Air Corp where he was commissioned as a Lieutenant, Fighter Pilot. After nine months he was transferred to a Heavy Bombardment Squadron. Awarded the Purple Heart Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross for landing his bomber with the landing gear and two engines shot away; and a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action. Also received the Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars (for the Invasion of France and Bombing Missions over Germany), Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and Good Conduct Ribbon.
