Activity During WWII

He enlisted in the United States Navy at Baltimore, Maryland on February 6, 1946, because he knew he was to be drafted and did not want to be in the Army. He started out as an apprentice seaman, then to an apprentice seaman two and then eventually a Yeoman Third. He completed his boot camp at Camp Peary, Virginia for a period of ten weeks. By train they were transferred to San Francisco, California for three weeks. Soon after he went to San Diego, California while waiting to get assigned to a ship, he was assigned to the Admiral’s staff on Con des Pac, the USS Prairie (AD15) from 1946 to early 1947. He was a Yeoman doing administrative duties. They were supply ships with the Admiral’s staff onboard. He received the World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged on December 2, 1947 in San Diego, California.
