Activity During WWII

Dates of Service: 05/13/1943-01/08/1946; Corps of Engineers, Company 'A', 271 Engineer Combat Battalion; Received 2 Bronze stars and a Purple Heart for heroic achievement in action against the enemy 26 April 1946, in the vicinity of Auburg, Germany during the crossing of the Danube River, where four enlisted men were wounded. He volunteered his services as stretcher bearer to aid in the evacuation of the four men. He made four trips under heavy small arms and mortal fire to help in the removal of the wounded. His actions in risking his life to bring aid to and help in the removal of his wounded comrades was an inspiration to all. Entered military service from St. Louis, Missouri.
