He served as a Private First Class in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, Third Battalion, Company K, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War and was detained by Germany from January 2, 1945 to July 21, 1945 and was held at Stalag 5A Malschbach Ludwigsburg Wurttemberg.
