He served as a Staff Sergeant in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, Third Battalion, Company K, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War and was detained by Germany from April 5, 1945 until July 20, 1945 and was held at Stalag 5A Malschbach Ludwigsburg Wurttemberg.
