San Diego Boot Camp, June, 1944. Quartermaster School. Assigned to USS Tripoli. Rotated standing watch on the bridge and steering the ship with the captain and navigator; operated the Loran machine. Took a load of planes to Marshall Islands and was in and out of Pearl Harbor qualifying pilots' take-offs and landings. HE was assigned to steer the ship through the Panama Canal to be decommissioned.
