Activity During WWII

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December of 1942 and received an Honorable Discharge in February of 1946. During WWII, he served as a Combat Medic on LST-338, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day and other beaches in Sicily and Salerno. The ship made 56 trips across the English Channel. In December of 2014, he was presented with the French Legion of Honor Medal (the highest award presented by the French Government) at a special ceremony at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. Other medals that he earned for his service include the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with three stars, the WWII European Medal, the Joint Service Medal with one star, the WWII Victory Medal, the Combat Action Medal with one star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Overseas Service Medal, and the American Defense Medal.
