Activity During WWII

He enlisted in Company H, 201st Infantry, West Virginia National Guard in 1936. After he was called up he served in Kodiak, Alaska from February 1942 until April 1943 when he was sent to Officer Candidate School. After receiving his commission as 2nd Lieutenant he went in to Normandy with the 90th Infantry Division, 359 Infantry, Company D, landed on Utah Beach at Normandy. In early December 1944 he was sent stateside to a hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. A little later in December he was transferred to a hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. He was honorably discharged from the army. He earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
