He served as a Sergeant in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, First Battalion, Company A, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War and was detained by Germany from December 4, 1944 to June 8, 1945. He was held at Stalag 4B Muhlberg Sachsen.
