Rank: Private 1st Class. On January 6, 1942, he entered the United States Army, with his induction at Fort Bliss, Texas, receiving his Boot Camp Training at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. Later completed Paratrooper Combat Infantry Training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Deployed to Great Britain, arriving Camp Scraptoft near Leicester, England in July of 1944. Served in Company-E as a Rifleman, Second Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, a subordinate unit of the 82nd ‘All-American’ Airborne Division. His Division participated in the Invasion of the Netherlands against the German armed forces Code Named: Operation, Market Garden, the liberation of Holland. Killed in Action Wednesday, October 11, 1944 and buried in the Holenhoek battlefield cemetery, Nijmegen, Holland. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his family received his remains for burial, with interment in the Inestimable Gift Cemetery in Allen, South Dakota. This Soldier, an American Patriot, a Native American citizen, a descendant of the Oglala Sioux tribe, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
