HE SERVED IN THE PACIFIC ON THE USS COLLETT, A DESTROYER ASSIGNED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISARMING JAPANESE MINES. NEAR THE END OF THE WAR HE WAS ASSIGNED TO WASHINGTON, D.C. AND WITNESSED THE INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT HARRY S. TRUMAN. HE WAS AWARDED A WWII VICTORY CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AN AMERICAN MEDAL, AN ASIATIC-PACIFIC MEDAL, A CHINA SERVICE MEDAL AND A GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL.
