Activity During WWII

Rank: Corporal. On June 20, 1942 he entered the United States Army Air Corps with his induction at Denver, Colorado. After his graduation from Boot Camp, he was selected to attend the Flight Aviation Training Program. Served as a Douglas C-47 ‘SKYTRAIN’ Transport Radio Operator, assigned to the 72nd Troop Carrier Squadron, 434th Troop Carrier Group U.S. Ninth Army Air Force. His unit was based at Aldermaston Royal Air Force Station Newbury, Berkshire England. On Monday, January 1, 1945 he died in a non-battle incident and buried in the American Henri-Chapelle cemetery in Elllpen, Belgium. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his remains were returned to his family for burial, with interment at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, as he so gallantly gave his life for his country.
