He enlisted 3 November 1942 in the U.S. Army. He served in Italy with the 15th Army Air Corps. He was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 7 stars and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945.
