Activity During WWII

He joined the Army National Guard after high school. His unit was called to active service in March 1941. He went to Southern California and the Pacific Northwest for training and maneuvers in field communications, stringing wire from artillery setups to observation points, other batteries, and field headquarters. The 222nd regiment shipped out of San Francisco on the SS Etolin. They sailed to Kauai, Guadalcanal, and Cape Gloucester. He fought as an infantryman, firing 155 howitzers and in communications in the battle for Luzon and Pani in the Philippine Islands.
