He entered the Army in Bell, California, but his hometown was Danville, Arkansas. He was a member of the First Special Service Force (4-2). When the FSSF was disbanded 5 December 1944 near Villeneuve-Loubet, he was transferred and then served with the 82nd Airborne Division. Awards: Bronze Star Medal with ā€œVā€ device and oak leaf, Army Commendation Medal with bronze oak leaf, Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasps indicating four awards, American Campaign Medal with a silver and bronze service medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with silver service medal, WWI Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal. He was awarded the Bronze Star for participating in the following campaigns: Southern France, Naples-Foggia, Aleutian Islands, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe. He continued his service after WWII.
