Rank: Corporal. On December 5, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps from Colorado, receiving his Boot Camp Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Later he completed his Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California. Served in a Search light Battery, Sixteenth Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, and a subordinate unit of the First Marine ‘the Old Breed’ Division. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands against the Imperial Japanese and Naval forces (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1–June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Killed in action Thursday, May 24, 1945 and buried in the First Marine Division Battlefield Cemetery on Okinawa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his family for burial, with interment at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
