He joined the Navy on May 12, 1942. He was trained as an electrician at the Naval Training Station School at Iowa State before being shipped out. He was assigned as an Electrician's Mate Third Class. After the war he was sent to Bikini Atoll to assist with testing for radiation. He received an honorable discharge.
