Activity During WWII

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 2 October 1941 at Camp Blanding, Florida. He served with the 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Squadron, 8th Cavalry. He landed in the Philippine Islands on 27 January 1945. On 30 January 1945, his unit was ordered to free the internees at Santo Thomas University in Manila. They fought the Japanese for 100 miles to Manila, his unit entered Santo Thomas and freed the internees. The 1st Cavalry was the first into Manila and the first into Tokyo.
