He was a crew member of LST-342 on 18 July 1943 when she was sunk by a Japanese torpedo off the Solomon Islands. His status was Missing in Action, later changed to a Finding Of Death. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and is memorialized on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippine Islands.
