Activity During WWII

Prior to his enlistment in the Navy he Attended 3 months of seamanship training at the Maritime Service Training Center; Avalon, California. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 8 December 1943 as an Apprentice Seaman and completed boot camp at Naval Training Station, Farragut, Idaho. Upon graduating from boot camp, as a Seaman 2nd Class, he attended Armed Guard School at the Naval Repair Base, San Diego, California. After this training, he was assigned to the Armed Guard Station, Naval Repair Base, San Diego, California for 1 year and 7 months. During this time he deployed several times on 2 Liberty Ships assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific area and was promoted to Seaman 1st Class. After his service in the Pacific, he was assigned to the Armed Guard Training Center, Treasure Island, San Francisco, California. His last assignment was the USS LMS 288 as part of her decommissioning effort. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on 20 April 1946.
