He was a Navigator on B-17 Flying Fortresses with the 463rd Bombardment Group of the 15th Air Force. From bases in Italy, he was in many campaigns in the liberation of occupied Europe, until he was sadly lost over the Balkans on June 14th, 1944 during an aerial mishap.
